Matchmaking (Сватання)
The groom sends representatives (swaty) to the bride's home to formally propose. If accepted, the bride gives the representatives embroidered rushnyk (towels) — a symbolic yes.
Vinok & Blessing (Вінчання)
The bride is crowned with a flower wreath (vinok) by her mother the morning of the wedding. Parents bless the couple with bread and salt (korovai) on an embroidered rushnyk.
Church Ceremony
An Orthodox or Greek Catholic ceremony featuring candles, icon blessings, and a ribbon binding the couple's hands. Traditional embroidered vyshyvanka dress is commonly worn.
Reception (Весілля)
A Ukrainian wedding reception is joyful and multi-course — borscht, varenyky, holubtsi (stuffed cabbage), and an elaborate korovai wedding bread. Live folk music and hopak dancing bring the celebration to life.
