Smudging Ceremony
A spiritual cleansing ritual using sacred herbs — sage, cedar, sweetgrass, or tobacco — burned to purify the couple, guests, and space. An elder leads the smudging. Guests are welcome to participate and receive the cleansing smoke.
Drumming & Prayer
Traditional drumming songs and prayers open the ceremony. The drum is considered the heartbeat of the Earth in many First Nations traditions. Listening respectfully and following the lead of the elder is appreciated.
Wedding Ceremony
Traditions vary widely by Nation — some include blanket ceremonies, circle ceremonies, or the exchange of eagle feathers. The ceremony honours both the couple's individual Nations and the land they stand on.
Celebration & Feast
A feast with traditional foods alongside contemporary dishes, accompanied by drumming, singing, and dancing. Gift giving and sharing with the community are central to the celebration.
