  1. Civil Ceremony (Casamento Civil)

The legal marriage performed at a cartório (notary registry). Often small and intimate — many couples hold it a few days before the main celebration.

  2. Church Ceremony

A Catholic or evangelical church wedding with full liturgical ceremony. Brazilian church weddings can be elaborate and emotional, with choir music and a large guest list.

  3. Reception (Festa de Casamento)

A grand Brazilian reception features a churrasco (BBQ), forró or axé music, samba dancing, and tables of pão de queijo, brigadeiro, and caipirinhas. Expect a crowd that dances all night.
