Punjabi Sikh

  1. Rokna / Chunni Chadana (Engagement)

    The groom's family visits the bride with a chunni (headscarf) and gifts, formally marking the engagement. Prayers are offered, sweets are distributed, and the couple is blessed by elders.

  2. Mehendi

    Henna is applied to the bride's hands in an intimate celebration with family and close friends. Bhangra and giddha dancing often break out. Colourful salwar kameez or lehenga is the dress code.

  3. Anand Karaj (Sikh Wedding Ceremony)

    The Sikh marriage ceremony takes place in a Gurdwara in the presence of the Guru Granth Sahib Ji (the Sikh holy scripture). The couple walks around the scripture four times (lavaan) while the Granthi reads sacred hymns. Head must be covered — the Gurdwara provides scarves for guests. A deeply spiritual and beautiful ceremony.

  4. Milni

    The formal meeting of both families' male relatives at the ceremony venue. Each pair garlands each other and exchanges handshakes or hugs, marking the merging of families.

  5. Reception (Receptions Party)

    A grand celebration with bhangra bands, a DJ, and a full Punjabi feast — butter chicken, dal makhani, saag, and an endless dessert spread. Expect dancing that goes on for hours. Dress in your finest ethnic wear.
