Moroccan
Khotba (Engagement Ceremony)
The groom's family visits the bride's family to officially announce the engagement. Prayers are recited and sweets are shared. The bride may receive a first gift of gold jewelry.
Hammam Day
The bride visits a traditional hammam (bathhouse) with close female family and friends, a purification ritual before the wedding. Followed by henna application and celebration.
Henna Night
A women's gathering where a negafa (bridal stylist) applies intricate henna designs to the bride. Traditional music (chaabi or andalusian) plays as guests eat pastilla and honey sweets.
Nikah Ceremony
The religious marriage contract signed by both families in front of an adoul (Islamic notary). Prayers and Quranic recitations mark the occasion.
Wedding Procession & Amariya
The bride is carried into the reception on a decorated litter (amariya) by male attendants, changing into multiple traditional kaftans throughout the night. Guests ululate and shower her with rose petals.
Reception (Aârs)
A night of feasting on bastilla, couscous, and mechoui (slow-roasted lamb) with traditional chaabi music and Guedra dancers. Moroccans celebrate in style — expect an opulent, multi-course spread.
