Jewish (Ashkenazi)
Aufruf (Torah Honor)
The Shabbat before the wedding, the groom (and often the bride) is called up to recite a blessing over the Torah. Candy is traditionally thrown at the couple by the congregation afterward.
Kabbalat Panim (Separate Receptions)
Before the ceremony, the groom holds court with his male guests while the bride is veiled by the groom in the bedeken ritual. Both gatherings feature l'chaim toasts and heartfelt moments.
Chuppah Ceremony
The Jewish wedding ceremony takes place under a chuppah (wedding canopy) representing the couple's new home. It includes sheva brachot (seven blessings), ring exchange, ketubah reading, and ends with the groom breaking a glass — to which guests shout 'Mazal Tov!'
Yichud (Seclusion)
Immediately after the ceremony, the couple spends a few minutes alone together — the first private moment as husband and wife. Guests begin the cocktail hour while the couple has this intimate break.
Wedding Reception & Dancing
A joyful reception with hora dancing (guests lift the couple in chairs), a full Jewish feast, and heartfelt speeches. Traditional klezmer music may blend with contemporary hits. Separate dance floors for men and women are common in Orthodox celebrations.
