Yuino (Formal Engagement Exchange)
A formal meeting of the two families where betrothal gifts (betrothal money, sake, dried foods) are exchanged on trays covered with red and gold cloth. The ceremony is elegant and quiet, steeped in centuries of tradition.
San-san-kudo (Sake Sharing)
The couple takes three sips of sake from three stacked cups (three sips = unity), symbolizing the bond of marriage and connecting the two families. Simple, profound, and utterly distinctive. Traditional kimono or hakama is worn.
Shinto Ceremony
Held at a shrine, a Shinto priest leads rituals including norito prayers, sake sharing, and the exchange of san-san-kudo cups. Only family members and close friends are traditionally invited.
披露宴 Hiroen (Banquet Reception)
The wedding reception features multi-course French or Japanese cuisine, heartfelt speeches (nakodo-san), candle lighting ceremonies, and the bride's multiple outfit changes throughout the evening. A polished, orchestrated event with moving personal touches.
