Roka / Engagement
A formal engagement ceremony where both families meet to bless the couple and officially announce their union. Sweets are exchanged, the couple receives gifts, and prayers are offered. Dress festively — kurtas, sarees, or smart casual.
Mehendi Night
Intricate henna designs are applied to the bride's hands and feet by a professional mehendi artist, often accompanied by Bollywood music and dancing. Guests are encouraged to get small mehendi designs too. Dress in colourful lehengas or suits — this is one of the most vibrant events.
Sangeet
An evening of music and choreographed dance performances by both families, celebrating the couple. Think of it as a talent show and dance party combined — groups rehearse routines for weeks. Semi-formal ethnic wear is expected.
Haldi Ceremony
Turmeric paste is applied to both the bride and groom in separate celebrations to bless and cleanse them before the wedding. It is a joyful, intimate family affair — wear old clothes as the turmeric stains everything.
Baraat (Groom's Procession)
The groom arrives at the wedding venue on horseback or in a decorated car, surrounded by dancing family and friends to the beat of dhol drums. The bride's family welcomes the procession with a milni (formal meeting of relatives). An exhilarating start to the ceremony.
Mandap Ceremony
The core Hindu wedding ritual under a flower-decorated canopy. A pandit leads the couple through vows, the sacred fire (agni), the seven steps (saptapadi), and the sindoor ceremony. Rich in symbolism — this is where the actual marriage happens. Traditional attire required.
Reception
A grand celebration for friends and extended family who may not have attended earlier events. Expect a full Indian buffet, Bollywood DJ, and a glamorous crowd. Evening formal or party wear is perfect.
